Gem Stones : Gem Stones (also called a Gem, Jewel, Semi Precious and Precious stone) is a mineral crystal which is used to make jewellery but certain rocks or organic materials that are not minerals are also used for jewellery and therefore considered as Gemstones. Gem stones are hard but some soft minerals are used in jewellery because of their physical properties.
A very famous Sanskrit Sholka says that ..
सशङ्खचक्रं सकिरीटकुण्डलं सपीतवस्त्रं सरसीरुहेक्षणम् ।
सहारवक्षस्स्थलशोभिकौस्तुभं नमामि विष्णुं शिरसा चतुर्भुजम् ॥
Apart from many kinds of weapons, Lord Vishnu bears ‘Kaustubha Mani’ (a gem named Kaustubh) on his chest. This gem is dearest to Him. This hymn shows that even before the whole universe came into being, Lord Vishnu did have an existence and the gem Kaustubh also existed along with Him.
Gemmology or the scientific and ethnic study of gemstones is an important and integral part of Astrology. Use of precious gems and stones has been an ancient practice in India. As per the beliefs this science is thousands of years old, however scriptural evidences show that concept of gemmology is as old as the creation itself.
Rudraksh : As per the Indian mythology, Rudraksh represents Rudra Eyes means Lord Shiva’s Eyes and according to present science Rudraksh Tress known as “Elaecarpus ganitrus Roxb“. The seeds of this plant known as a Rudraksh Seed. These are available in many forms from One Mukhi to Twenty One Mukhi Rudraksh and simply classified because of its vertical lining available on seeds. If seed has one vertical line than it called as “Ek Mukhi” Rudraksh and all others are like that in ascending order of vertical lines. Each bead has a different effect on person depending on the number of mukhs Rudraksh has.
Astrologers suggest Rudraksh for minimizing the bad effects of cosmic rays and for improvement of health especially heart related issues, because of which one is suggested to wear one Panchmukhi Rudraksh Mala for controlling of the heart diseases.
